Department 56 Snow Village The Snow Village collection is built to reflect the historical vision of the small towns found from coast to coast. They are designed with the vision that originally started dept 56 when the first creators saw that town on Christmas Eve glowing in the distance as the turned that corner. These villages remind us of the shops and cozy streets that are missed in the urban and cookie cutter suburbs we find ourselves in every day. These villages are what we wish we could experience everyday – the idealism that we all love to imagine and escape into. These decorative, miniature-scale pieces season. These villages are based on the detail only found in our romantic visions of the past. The snow village are really rooted in early American colonial architectural style homes. For the most part the love of these village themes started with the traditions of putting nativity scenes at the base of Christmas trees. As these became more detailed and complete the scenes included roads and moss to represent the valleys. These details also included carvings of wooden figures. Eventually these scenes made their way to the tables, and living rooms for decorations. They oftentimes represented different cultural stories or historical religious themes. Eventually these scenes added other buildings, vehicles, trains, and nature.
